A couple of Sundays ago, my chap and I ticked another Edinburgh restaurant off our list of places to go. The Ship on the Shore is just where you expect it to be, pride of place along the waterfront in Leith. Whenever I’ve seen people sitting at the outside tables with a glass of wine and a platter of seafood in the summer, it’s made me very jealous. It’s a little on the expensive side for our normal Sunday afternoons, but we treated ourselves with a little help from some birthday money!
We over-ordered, and left full-to-bursting, but it was too hard not to.
We shared a seafood platter and some fish cakes, which came recommended by the waiters. The platter had everything from oysters to rollmops, smoked salmon to scallops.
The fish cakes were fresh and came with a lovely tartare sauce. Not something that we would usually go for but worth a try.
Next we piled into a golden and bubbling fish pie and chips, and king scallops with cabbage, black pudding and relish – really delicious. The fish pie came with some tasty spinach and cabbage, which lightened everything up a touch. There were chips-a-plenty, but really good ones so it wasn’t so much of a chore.
The relish really freshened everything up, as we all know the richness that black pudding brings to a dish.
All in all, I left a very happy bunny.
