Coconut oil is one of the best sources of medium-chain triglycerides (fatty acids), which are more easily digested and converted into energy than long-chain fatty acids (e.g omegas). These medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) also do not have a negative effect on cholesterol and so lower the risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis.
The liver and gall bladder do not need to digest and emulsify MCFAs, resulting in instant energy, increased metabolic rate and subsequently more heat production as well as increased circulation – great for workouts and fat loss.
Many of coconut oil’s health benefits can be attributed to lauric acid. In the body it is converted to monolaurin, which is highly toxic to viruses, bacteria and fungi because of its ability to disrupt their lipid membranes and basically destroy them. Coconut oil is also a great conditioner and moisturiser!
So a teaspoon of coconut oil in your morning coffee is not only good for fat loss but also provides energy and reduces the glycogen demand in exercise.
