Continuing the Sicilian foodie adventure…Six by Nico

I’m sure a lot of you will have heard of Six by Nico by now. The restaurant concept was started by Nico Simeone in Glasgow, and has now been fully embraced by the Edinburgh crowds nestled into Hanover Street. As the name suggests, diners are served 6 courses for a set price. Nothing out of the ordinary you might say, but the best bit is that the entire menu changes every 6 weeks and is based on a theme – “a story every 6 weeks”. They’ve had Willy Wonka, the 70s, Mexico, and the most recent was Sicilian, which we were very eager to go to. Each theme is based on a place or a memory and will certainly get people going back time and time again.

We started with arancini, which were light and tasty mouthfuls in 3 different flavours.

Melanzana – aubergine and ricotta

Ox-cheek ragu pappardelle with a parmesan crisp

Seared tuna – deliciously fresh and practically raw

Pork fillet and sausage with fennel and pistachio

And finally a lemon tart with creme fraiche and mint granita

The tuna and the lemon tart stood out for me. The service was spot on and we got a little postcard with the menu to take away. 6 courses for £28 and an optional wine pairing for £25. A wee treat but still doesn’t break the bank.

Next up is “Middle Eastern”..anyone booked a table?
