Look what I just found!
Blackberries are just as much a “super” food as blueberries, with almost the same antioxidant action. The deep purple colour shows that they are rich in anthocyanins and ellagic acid, which are good nutrients in the fight against heart disease, cancer and signs of ageing. Of course, they are also full of vitamin C, as well as vitamin E and folate, which helps to promote healthy blood.
Eating them just as they are keeps in all the vitamin C but cooking doesn’t destroy the ellagic acid, which is useful to know if you are planning an apple and bramble crumble.
Bonus – free from the garden and hedgerows!
