My top cookbooks of 2014

IMG_3361My recipe book shelf is filling up nicely. In fact, it is almost full and will soon be spreading out of the kitchen. I don’t use recipes for all of the meals I cook but I do love to read them to get inspiration and there is always a cook book sitting by my bed.

3 new books that joined the collection this year were: Yotam Ottolenghi “Plenty More”, Nigel Slater “Eat” and “Top with Cinnamon” by Izy Hossack.

IMG_2919Plenty More: jam packed with wonderful salads and veggie things, a few of which I have tried out already – tomato and pomegranate salad, spiced eggs…The book is broken down into chapters of cooking methods; steamed, blanched, grilled, roasted etc. etc. Next recipes to try: crushed puy lentils with tahini and cumin or polenta crisps with avocado and yoghurt – yum!


Eat: similar to Plenty More in that chapters reflect ways to cook, although titled more poetically with ‘in the hand’ and ‘in the frying pan’. I’ve got a few of Nigel Slater’s books now and they can always be relied on for the basics and for something quick and easy. Next recipes to try: artichokes and cannellini or pig and fig.

Top with Cinnamon: I believe that this started as a blog and so it has the most beautiful pictures. A great one for breakfast and brunch-y things. Next recipes to try: courgette cornbread pancakes or ricotta asparagus fritters – both sound just delicious.
